An untethered jailbreak that works with an iPod Touch 3G running iOS 5 has been demoed on YouTube, with the promise of an eventual public release and subsequent updates for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Up until now, all iOS 5 jailbreaks have been “tethered” hacks, meaning that to boot the device it had to be connected to a laptop or desktop PC via USB. This untethered jailbreak means that the device can be powered off and on without needing to be connected to a PC. Check out the video below, posted by Pod2G:
As soon as this untethered jailbreak goes public, we’ll have a full tutorials for iOS 5 users. Since it seems to work smoothly in the video, we can only assume it’s close to being ready for release.
